Hiking route: holm oak grove and viewpoint of peña lastra

Valmala, within the humbleness of most of the towns in Burgos, can boast of several things. The first is a natural environment in the shadow of the Trigaza, in which valuable beech forests survive.
And above all a church with an interesting apse from the Romanesque period This temple has an important peculiarity. When in a later reform of a Romanesque church it is decided to preserve the apse, it usually maintains its use, sometimes as the head of a secondary nave or the sacristy. But in this case the new church was arranged transversally to the previous one, converting the feet and the chevet of the previous one into side naves of the new one. This situation can be better appreciated in an aerial image and by accessing the interior of the church.

We leave Mollerussa and the first stop is Tarazona. There is a large parking lot next to the Cathedral. It is a set of Gothic style of the thirteenth – fifteenth centuries, also includes important architectural elements of Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque styles.
In the tourist office a very friendly girl gives us information about what to visit and the surroundings. We were pleasantly surprised by this town since it has a lot to visit and we had no idea of what it could offer us.
Tarazona is the capital of the region of Moncayo, is located in the middle valley of the river Queiles, at a distance of 86 km from Zaragoza. Crossroads between the autonomous communities of Castilla León, La Rioja and Navarra, it has a population of 11,000 inhabitants.
A Roman municipality, its site was successively settled by Visigoths, Arabs, Jews and Christians, making Tarazona one of the most emblematic places in Aragon. It has an urban fabric of high neighborhoods, small houses, alleys, arcades and passageways. The old town was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1965.
