A la familia Hygrophoropsidaceae pertenecen los hongos con porte chanterelloide, con colores que van del amarillo-naranja al amarillo-naranja al ladrillo anaranjado; superficie afieltrada a fibrillosa; agallas blanquecinas a anaranjadas brillantes, más o menos desprendibles de la carne del sombrero. Esporas blancas en masa. Al género Hygrophoropsis se le atribuyen especies con porte chantereloide u onfaloide, sombrero liso o finamente escamado, afelpado; agallas decurrentes en el tallo, bifurcadas. Esporas blancas o amarillo pálido en masa.
Sombrero: 3-6 cm, inicialmente convexo, luego plano y finalmente deprimido, catiforme, a veces en forma de embudo; margen fino, inicialmente incurvado, luego extendido, sinuoso, lobulado. La cutícula es finamente afieltrada, seca, de color naranja, amarillo-anaranjado, naranja-marrón, más pálida hacia el margen.
